High Catalan Cuisine in Sant Pol de Mar in Barcelona with Carme Ruscalleda

Sant Pau’s Restaurant from Carme Ruscalleda will close its doors.

The high Catalan cuisine it’s a fusion mix between proximity and innovation.

Last July, the Catalan chef Carme Ruscalleda announced the closing of her well-know, famous and award-winning Restaurant Sant Pau in Sant Pol de Mar. Last dinner will take place on October 27, coinciding with the 30th Anniversary of its opening, leaving behind a great trajectory full of success and recognition on an International level.

The Catalan High Cuisine appeared at the end of the 20th century illuminating the world of gastronomy with a kitchen of proximity combined with intellect and imagination. Great Catalan chefs such as Ferran Adrià or the Roca Brothers have acquired prestigious culinary awards, including the Best Restaurant in the World on several ocasions.

Carme Ruscalleda

It was Carme Ruscalella, one of the most pioneers Catalan cooks with interaction with other cultures, opening the Restaurant Sant Pau in Tokyo (Japan).  Her intention was to pour the foundations of Catalan and Japanese Cuisine to maximize their specific strengths and turn them into a new concept of Fusion Cuisine. The interest and perseverance of the chef Carme Ruscalleda, was recognized obtaining two Michelin stars in Restaurant Sant Pau in Tokyo. Adding the three Michelin stars of Sant Pau Restaurant in Sant Pol de Mar, and two more obtained from the Restaurant Moments from Barcelona (where her son leader the kitchen), make her the woman chef with most Michelin stars in the world.

Using the resources that the closest nature can offer, the chef Carme Ruscalleda, prepared dishes with great creativity and imagination, in which literature or art could be reflected. Also, her concern for healthy cooking has made her argument and recognition based ethically. Her great knowledge and experience, has made her the author of many cookbooks, both cookbook and divulgation about cooking.

Probably the concern to make known her culinary knowledge, which has led this Catalan cook to rethink her first Sant Pau Restaurant in Sant Pol de Mar. Her intention is to create a bar that her daughter Mercè will take care, but with a space for the culinary innovation in which the well-known Catalan chef will continue to investigate in the field of High Catalan Cuisine.
